The launch ceremony of hydrogen energy vehicles by Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a leading global manufacturer of integrated electronic components, was held in Wuxi. This time, Murata took the production base in Wuxi as the trial operation point for hydrogen energy vehicles, undertaking the logistics and transportation tasks of its base. At the ceremony, Murata, along with his partners Jiangsu Jialida International Logistics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Jialida") and Nippon Post Logistics (China) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Nippon Post"), jointly announced the signing of a cooperation agreement to jointly build a green supply chain, promote sustainable development, and contribute to building a green and low-carbon future.

As an innovator in the electronics industry, Murata has always regarded environmental protection as an important social issue internally, focusing on environmental measures and business activities, and continuously promoting innovative climate change strategies. Therefore, Murata operates in accordance with the standards of the international environmental initiative "RE100" and the scientific based targets initiative "SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative)" and sets clear medium - and long-term goals, striving to reduce greenhouse gases in product manufacturing. To achieve this goal, Murata plans to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1+2 range) by 2024, ensuring a 20% reduction compared to 2019, i.e. reducing CO2 emissions to below 1.28 million tons. Meanwhile, Murata is also committed to increasing the import rate of renewable energy, with the goal of reaching 25% by 2024 and 100% by 2050. In the logistics field, Murata has also set annual carbon reduction goals by improving the packaging and transportation methods of the entire logistics supply chain, such as replacing multi segment cars with trains and utilizing inland waterway transportation, to achieve carbon reduction goals. The deployment of hydrogen powered vehicles this time marks a new chapter in the green supply chain initiated by Murata.

It is reported that the application of hydrogen energy vehicles will bring significant carbon reduction effects. Compared to traditional fuel vehicles, the first phase of using hydrogen energy vehicles is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 30 tons or more (* calculated based on internal route transportation volume and vehicle fuel consumption per 100 kilometers), and it is expected to provide over 1798 tons of new energy transportation services to Murata's Wuxi production base every year. In the future, Murata will make efforts to promote more utilization plans including SAF clean air fuel, electric vehicles, and hydrogen energy vehicles, and test the feasibility and effectiveness of their application.

Make multiple efforts and actively expand the new path to achieving "dual carbon"

In order to further promote the implementation of energy conservation and renewable energy in production and operation, Murata has taken carbon reduction actions in multiple fields. In addition to introducing hydrogen energy vehicles as logistics transportation vehicles at its production base in Wuxi, Murata Group built its first negative carbon three-dimensional parking lot at its production base in Wuxi in 2022. The roof and multiple walls of the parking lot are equipped with double-sided solar panels, which can increase the solar absorption rate of the same land area by about 1.2 times. The annual power generation capacity is equivalent to the electricity consumption needs of 300 ordinary households, and it is expected to reduce 490 tons of CO2 emissions. On April 22 this year, the environmentally friendly three-dimensional parking lot built by Murata at his Shenzhen base has also been officially put into use. It is expected to help reduce 62.32 tons of CO2 emissions in the first year of operation. In order to achieve the goal of 100% import of renewable energy by 2050, Murata has gradually introduced green electricity in various factories in the Chinese circle, and some factories, including the Wuxi factory, have taken the lead in achieving 100% import.

Murata has always regarded low-carbon emissions reduction as one of the important goals for undertaking corporate social responsibility. The cooperation with Jialida and Nippon Post this time will accumulate valuable experience for Murata to promote energy conservation, expand the introduction of renewable energy and other carbon reduction strategies. In the future, Murata will continuously try more green logistics solutions in combination with national new energy promotion policies, company operations, environmental contribution effects, and other factors. Murata also hopes to join hands with more upstream and downstream partners in the supply chain, continuously strive to build a green and low-carbon supply chain, continuously explore new paths to achieve "dual carbon", and jointly promote the sustainable development of the industry and society.
